A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across this video, where Aussie you-tuber and general good guy Struthless, aka Cam Walker, gives his personalised “32 ways to be better at life”, made at 32 years of age. He was inspired by the founder of Wired magazine, Kevin Kelly’s video from 2 years ago “68 bits of unsolicited advice”, that he made at age 68. I found some real gems in both of their lists and enjoyed the exercise as a personal reflection tool.
So, in keeping with the trend, I’m posting this on my 24th birthday because it’s nice to be reflective around one’s birthday and the new year. I also enjoy the irony that unsolicited advice is even more unsolicited when it comes from a young person. So here are my 24 pieces of completely unsolicited advice. Take it, leave it or laugh as you please:
Learn how to DIY as much as possible. It saves the cost of paying for labour and you get to level up your character with the addition of each new skill.
Lie on the grass.
Never stop asking questions.
Go to stuff in person as much as you can.
Schedule time to let yourself be bored for at least a day per month.
Learn to speed-read, then read as much as possible.
Learn how you learn.
Life is just choosing your addictions, choose well.
Most moisturisers leave your skin drier so you need to buy more moisturiser. Concept not limited to moisturiser.
If you have a goal, double it and treat it like a dare.
Walk. Preferably with bare feet on the earth.
Learn to think in probabilities and hypotheses.
Being unique is better than being the best of many.
Sleep with your phone away from your bed.
Leave your alarm off and your curtains open.
Cook dinner for your friends, and tell them you love them.
Thrift as much as possible. Unique taste develops in the absence of branding and advertisement, plus it’s cheap and sustainable.
Do things you’ve never done before.
Seek the diet and lifestyle that makes you the healthiest.
Drink coffee, black.
Go camping.
Following every rule is just as bad as breaking every rule.
Dance.
Pat cats. Better yet, adopt cats.
Comment what would be on your list…
Love this !!
Smile at strangers.
It's not a random act of kindness if it's on your social media.
Your online status does not define you.
Formal education is not the only way to be deemed smart.
